Therapist
Mai is a counseling psychologist who received her MA in counseling psychology from the American University in Cairo. She also earned a community psychology diploma from the American University in Cairo. She has been recently trained in applying EFT skills and approaches with couples and individuals, which is accredited from the international center for excellence in emotionally focused therapy “ICEEFT” in Canada.
Mai received her clinical training in multiple settings. She trained in both the outpatient and inpatient divisions of the Rakhawy Institute for Training and Research. She also provided support and psycho educational workshops for emerging adults, parents and teenagers at Alwan and Awatar NGO sfor less privileged individuals.
Mai was also trained at the Psychological Counseling Service and Training Center at the American University in Cairo with emerging adults, adults and married couples.
She also co-led groups focusing on relationship struggles and breakups and gave several workshops about relationships, test and performance anxiety in addition to psychoeducational workshops for AUC staff.
she is experienced in dealing with depression, anxiety, existential issues, academic challenges, interpersonal issues and marital distress problems.
Mai believes that therapy should be tailored to client’s subjective experience of psychological issues. Thus, she uses an eclectic client centered approach in her practice. She has been studying and got trained in various modalities of evidenced-based psychotherapy, like cognitive behavioral therapy and Dialectical behavior therapy and family systems.
She believes that the therapeutic alliance and building an effective therapeutic relationship is the most essential variable for the healing process in therapy. She believes that each client has potential to grow and she places emphasis on empowering her clients and supporting them in realizing their potential.
